With the school holidays now in session, we wanted to give you a bit of a plan of what’s happening through August so you’re not caught out. Our café and market will be open most of the way through august (apart from next week) and of course Chomp is in full flow all summer long, but here’s our services / sundays / walks stuff… |
Sunday 30th July – 4pm Feast (NO MORNING SERVICE) Lammas (midsummer) feast on Shoreham Beach at 4pm. We’ll meet here (what3words: reclined.atlas.rant). Expect bread based feasting and liturgy, with the chance for a swim (obvs). If it’s a washout we’ll meet at Flo Road instead, but we won’t be at Florence Road in the morning, so make sure you aren’t there. Tuesday 1st August – Friday 4th August The café will be closed this week due to staff holidays. We’ll be back for the market on Saturday. Saturday 5th August – BRIGHTON PRIDE Join us at Gloucester Place celebrating something of beautiful diversity of our humanity, waving banners and handing out water to those marching. Sunday 6th August Regular morning service including stream, kids and youth work. In the evening, we’ll be back at Florence Road at 6.30pm for a Q&A / conversation off the back of our series ‘Life in the Spirit’, so if there’s more on your mind on that theme, defo come join the chat. Saturday 12th August – One Church Walk (DATE CHANGE to avoid Pride) A 9 miler around and along the river Adur, meeting at 10am at the Swiss Cottage Pub. Sunday 13th August Regular morning service with stream and kids group but no youth session. Sunday 20th August Regular morning service including stream, kids and youth sessions. The monthly community meal will be after the service – let us know if you can stick around and volunteer. Sunday 27th August – NO SERVICE We’re taking this one totally off. So, unless you’re at Greenbelt (contact Anton if you’re planning to go) there won’t be anything run by One Church this Sunday. See you all fresh and rearing to go in September! |

One Church Walks
Through the seasons we’ll be walking our little nook of the beautiful planet we call home. Spring, summer, autumn or winter, we want to be outside together, so come and join in! Any questions, email dave@onechurchbrighton.org.

To Know The Dark
As a community, we’re committed to being more and more led by the arts.
This past Sunday, instead of having our usual morning service, our new artists in residence, Jules and Lydia, led a beautiful afternoon gathering. As well as unveiling their new installation ‘To Know The Dark’, the service was full of poetry, song, video and soundscape, providing the kind of physical and chronological space that our souls tend to find their home in.
It’s so fun to think that this is only the beginning.
‘To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,
and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.’
Wendell Berry

Walk this Sunday morning – NO SERVICE AT FLORENCE ROAD

//THERE’S NO SERVICE AT FLORENCE ROAD THIS SUNDAY MORNING//
Instead, we’ll be kicking off the year with a gentle walk together.
Meet outside the Fiveways pub at 11am for a walk up to the hill fort on Hollingbury Golf Course. We’ll be back down to Fiveways by 12.30 at the latest.
We’ll probably get up to the hill fort soon after 11.30, so if you the whole walk is too much for you, you could park nearer the top and walk along to the hill fort and meet us up there!
In the meantime, hope you enjoy the final 33 hours of 2022.
Partner with One Church

This past weekend we celebrated our our annual ‘Partnership Sunday’. Partnership is our language for membership. Rather than sign up for life, partnership is a chance each year to commit to one more lap of the sun in community together. This weekend we sang, we dreamed, we feasted and we made our partnership pledges.
Partnership is open to all. If you’d like to be a part of One Church this coming year, but missed out on Partnership Sunday, then we’d LOVE to hear from you. You can sign up to become a partner of One Church by heading here, or if you’d be interested in knowing more about One Church then email info@onechurchbrighton.org and we’ll get in touch as soon as we physically can. 🙂
Happy Autumn everyone.
Partnership and Feast, This Sunday!

This Sunday is a pretty fun one at One Church.
Firstly, it’s the week in the year where we all get together and say publicly that we’re gonna give this whole church thing a go for another lap of the sun. You don’t automatically stay members for life of One Church, instead we ask each other every year to commit to live a life of community and seeking to embody our values for just the year ahead. (That seems about enough for now). If you’d like to become, or re-become a partner of One Church Brighton, then we’d LOVE that.
Secondly, this Sunday is the first of our Feasts. Today is the Autumn Equinox – marking the start of the season of Autumn. Our hope is that as we mark the changing of the seasons with fantastic food and merriment, we’ll also be becoming more in sync with the beautiful, physical spaces that we inhabit. Come and eat with us immediately after the morning service finishes!
Future feast dates to follow very soon. We hope you come and do this journey with us. 🙂
